Container Transport to the Sunshine Coast: Bruce Highway Runs and Kunda Park
The Sunshine Coast is a long run from the Port of Brisbane, and we say so plainly. This page covers how these northbound jobs work: the distance, Caboolture as the gateway on the way north, the Kunda Park and Maroochydore industrial areas, Caloundra and coastal sites, and how the empty makes its way back south. When you are ready, send us the container details or call 0407 977 529.
A long haul north
The Sunshine Coast is a long run from the Port of Brisbane. Brisbane CBD to Maroochydore is roughly 100 km by road, and published route estimates put Caboolture to Maroochydore at around 70 km. Those are car-based figures; a loaded truck will not do better. Anyone who promises a same-hour turnaround to the coast is not being straight with you. We plan these runs as multi-hour jobs and we tell you what is realistic.
That changes how the job is built. The terminal window fixes when the truck leaves the port, the receiver's hours fix when it has to arrive, and the time in between is a real run up the Bruce Highway that we do not want to squeeze. The earlier you send the details, the more options there are.
Caboolture, the gateway
Caboolture is on the Bruce Highway and is in the Moreton Bay region rather than the Sunshine Coast proper, but it is where many northbound loads pass through. If your site is at Caboolture or nearby, the run is shorter and easier to plan around a terminal window.
Kunda Park and Maroochydore
Kunda Park is an industrial precinct with direct Bruce Highway access, roughly 10 km from Maroochydore along Maroochydore Road. Deliveries here are usually to dock-equipped businesses or yards. We ask about gate hours and dock access before the truck leaves the port.
For a dock delivery, tell us the dock number, the receival hours, whether a booking is needed and who will meet the driver. For a yard, tell us the surface, the gate and whether anything on site can lift the container. If nothing can, a sideloader may be able to set it down; see our sideloader page.
Caloundra and coastal sites
Coastal areas can have tighter streets and stricter truck rules. For a sideloader placement, send photos and check local restrictions.
Before we confirm a coastal placement, we check:
- gate or driveway width, and any bend or kerb
- overhead lines, trees and awnings
- ground firmness and slope
- clear space beside the placement spot
- any local limit on truck size or delivery hours
Our container delivery page covers these checks for any property.
Planning a multi-hour run
A multi-hour run has less room for error than a metro move. We ask for the release details early so the terminal booking can be made as soon as the container is clear. We confirm the receiver's hours and any booking rules before the truck leaves. We tell you if the sequence does not work, and we would rather re-plan on day one than have a truck arrive after a dock has closed.
For an import, the sequence is: release confirmed, terminal window booked, collection, the run north, delivery inside the receiver's hours, and then the empty. For an export, the empty comes north to you, you pack and seal it, and the loaded box has to get back south to make the terminal's receival cut-off. With this much distance in the middle, late packing is the most common cause of trouble.
Empties southbound
The empty has to come back to a container park near the port. That is another multi-hour leg with its own window, so we plan both together. Send the return advice with the delivery request. See our Hemmant page for how those parks work.
