FCL Container Cartage Brisbane — Full Container Load Transport
Full Container Load specialist transport for import and export FCL movements through the Port of Brisbane — door-to-door with customs coordination and demurrage avoidance.
FCL container cartage is the transport of a Full Container Load — a shipping container filled by one shipper for one consignee — from the Port of Brisbane to your door (import), or from your door to the port (export). It's the bread and butter of Brisbane container haulage, and it's a service we run every day. What is FCL (Full Container Load)?
FCL means you book and fill an entire container — the whole 20ft or 40ft is yours, sealed at origin and staying sealed until it reaches the destination. Your goods don't share space with anyone else's, and the container isn't opened between pickup and delivery. That makes FCL faster, more secure and lower-risk than LCL, and it's the standard choice for any shipment large enough to fill (or nearly fill) a container.
FCL vs LCL — which do you need?
FCL — Full Container Load
You book the whole container. One shipper, one consignee, sealed origin to destination. Best for larger volumes — typically anything above about 15 cubic metres. Faster transit, lower handling risk, no consolidation.
LCL — Less than Container Load
Your goods share a container with others. Cheaper for small volumes (under ~10–15 cbm) but involves consolidation at origin and deconsolidation at destination, adding time and handling. Cartage is usually of a palletised load, not a full container.
If you're not sure which applies to your shipment, ask your freight forwarder — but if a whole container is being delivered to you, it's FCL, and that's what we cart.
The FCL cartage process
Clearance & release
Your customs broker clears the goods; the shipping line releases the delivery order. We time pickup to the release so the container moves immediately.
Port pickup
We collect the laden FCL from DP World, VICT or Patrick at the booked slot and head straight to your delivery address.
Delivery
Container delivered to your warehouse or DC, unloaded at the dock, proof of delivery returned. Tracked end to end.
Empty dehire
Once unpacked, we return the empty to the nominated ECP and lodge the dehire to close your booking and stop detention.
FCL import pickup
For FCL imports, we collect your laden container from the Port of Brisbane the moment it's released — booking the slot early to beat demurrage — and deliver it to your warehouse or distribution centre. At the dock, your forklift or reach stacker unloads it, and we return the empty to the nominated ECP and lodge the dehire. It's a complete wharf-to-door-plus-dehire move, managed end to end. Read more in our guide to wharf-to-door container cartage.
FCL export delivery
For FCL exports, the critical factor is the export receival window — the cut-off by which your laden container has to be at the terminal before the sailing. We collect the packed container from your premises and deliver it to the terminal inside that window with margin to spare. Miss the cut-off and your container doesn't load, your customer waits, and you may face roll-over fees. We treat export cut-offs as hard deadlines.
FCL container tracking
Every FCL move is tracked end to end. You'll know when the slot is booked, when the container is collected, when it's in transit, and when it's delivered — with proof of delivery on every job. For regular movers, that tracking data feeds straight into your operations so you can plan labour and dock time around confirmed delivery windows, not estimates.
Customs clearance for FCL
We don't lodge customs entries ourselves — that's your customs broker's role — but we work closely with brokers to time pickup around clearance. The moment your container is customs and biosecurity cleared and the delivery order is released, we've got a slot booked and a truck ready. That coordination is what keeps FCL imports moving without demurrage.
Working with freight forwarders
Most FCL moves come to us through freight forwarders, and we're set up to work as their cartage arm. We take the container details, the delivery order and the delivery address, and we handle the terminal access, slot booking, cartage, POD and dehire — reporting back at each milestone. Forwarders value reliable slot times and clean paperwork, and that's exactly what we deliver, move after move.
FCL container storage
Sometimes your delivery site isn't ready when the container lands. Through partner yards in Hemmant and Acacia Ridge, we can arrange short-term FCL container storage to hold import containers until your site is ready, or to stage export containers before the receival window opens. Ask us about storage when you book the cartage and we'll build it into the move.
Avoiding demurrage on FCL moves
Demurrage is the single biggest avoidable cost on FCL imports. The free storage window after discharge is finite — typically a handful of days — and after that the terminal charges daily. The fix is early information and early slot booking: the moment your delivery order is expected, we book the slot. For regular FCL movers, a standing arrangement keeps your slots prioritised so demurrage never gets a look-in.
FCL cartage for regular importers and forwarders
If you're moving FCL containers through Brisbane regularly — weekly, monthly, or in project bursts — a standing arrangement transforms the economics. We hold your slots as a priority, schedule cartage around your unpack cycle, manage dehire automatically, and report at every milestone. You get predictable costs, zero demurrage, and one point of contact for the whole port leg — instead of booking each move from scratch. For forwarders, that reliability is exactly what lets you promise your clients a consistent service. Get a quote to set up a standing FCL arrangement.

FCL Container Cartage Brisbane questions, answered
FCL (Full Container Load) cartage is the transport of a shipping container that's filled by one shipper for one consignee — as opposed to LCL (Less than Container Load), where multiple shippers share a container. FCL cartage moves the whole container as a single unit from port to door or door to port.
